About the studio
A small studio with three decades of buildings behind it.
iDt is led by Izak du Toit and based in Stilbaai. We work with private clients, developers and businesses across the Western Cape, from the Garden Route up through the Overberg and into the Cape metro.

Principal
Izak du Toit
Izak has been practising architecture for thirty years. The work has ranged from coastal homes that have to cope with weather to industrial buildings that have to cope with everything else, but the approach has stayed the same: listen first, draw carefully, and stay involved until the building is finished.
Earlier in his career he developed a reputation for accessible design and detailed technical work. The parts of the job that don't make it into glossy magazines but determine whether a building actually works for the people inside it.
Today he runs iDt as a deliberately small practice, taking on a limited number of projects each year so that every client gets the principal's attention from first sketch to final inspection.
How we think
Three things we hold to.
The site comes first
Before we draw anything we walk the land, look at where the sun rises, where the wind comes from, what the neighbours have done. The best designs are answers to specific places, not templates dropped onto them.
Drawings are promises
The documents we hand to a builder are the document of what we said the building would be. We make them clear enough that there is nothing left to interpret. So what gets built is what was agreed.
Stay through the build
An architect's job isn't finished when the council stamps the plans. We stay involved on site, answer the builder's questions, and make sure the design that was approved is the design that gets built.
Curious whether we're a fit?
Send us a few details about your project. If we're not the right studio, we'll tell you. And where we can, point you to someone who is.
